>>> What to look at today - 29th of October 2021

U.S. futures fell Friday and Asian stocks were mixed after disappointing Amazon.com Inc. and Apple Inc. earnings and as traders weighed bond-market gyrations amid concerns over inflation and monetary tightening.
Chinese shares were modestly higher, while Japan fluctuated. Nasdaq 100 contracts underperformed S&P 500 futures. Apple and Amazon fell in extended trading, signaling a more than $200 billion drop in combined market value when the U.S. reopens. That dented upbeat views on company performance that earlier took Wall Street to a record close.
The U.S. dollar ticked up from a one-month low and crude oil fluctuated. In China, the debt crisis at China Evergrande Group remains in focus. Some holders of one of its bonds received an overdue interest payment, buying more time for the troubled property developer.
The latest data showed U.S. growth slowed more than expected in the third quarter, hampered by supply chains and a surge in Covid-19 cases. A separate report showed that weekly jobless claims fell to a pandemic low.
Meanwhile, President Joe Biden called on lawmakers to push ahead with a revised $1.75 trillion tax and spending plan, which has been scaled back from a previous $3.5 trillion proposal. A $550 billion infrastructure bill is also pending.
Elsewhere, the European Central Bank renewed its pledge to conduct emergency bond-buying at a “moderately” slower pace. President Christine Lagarde acknowledged inflationary pressures will last longer than expected. Investors kept alive bets for rate hikes as soon as next year.
In cryptocurrencies, Bitcoin retreated below $58,000 during a sharp swoon in U.S. trading. The largest token rebounded and was around $61,800 in Asian hours. Ether, the second largest, rallied to a record high.
US After Hours Markets are grappling with a number of crosscurrents. Generally positive corporate performance has helped to underpin global equities. But inflation risks from supply-chain snarls and costlier raw materials are boosting expectations for rate hikes and dimming the economic outlook.
“In the very near term, because many global central banks are just dipping their feet into taper, not even into quantitative tightening, the aggregate liquidity could remain very supportive,” Vishnu Varathan, head of economics and strategy at Mizuho Bank Ltd. in Singapore, said on Bloomberg Television. “Although I think you get very much more discriminatory moves and much more selective moves in the equity markets.”

(ZH) Bitcoin Soars Back Above $62k After Big Flash-Crash, Ether Hits $4300

Bitcoin Soars Back Above $62k After Big Flash-Crash, Ether Hits $4300

Update (1610ET): Well that escalated quickly...
After puking from $61k to $58, Bitcoin has soared back to the highs of the day above $62,000...
The flash-crash appears to have been an orchestrated stop-run...
And Ethereum has extended its gains, testing up to $4300...
A key resistance level...
The move higher was perhaps helped by MicroStrategy CEO and bitcoin devotee Michael Saylor says the company will continue to evaluate opportunities to raise additional capital to execute its bitcoin strategy.
Is the 2017 analog still in play?
* * *
Update (1440ET): Minutes after Zuckerberg unveils his Metaverse, someone or something just puked crypto sending Bitcoin crashing down from $61,000 to $58,000...
... before bouncing back fast
One crypto trader exclaimed "what the f**k was that?" on the move but after the even bigger fat-finger collapse earlier in the week on Binance, who knows?
Some have suggested it may be BITO-related...
And since BITO is a futures ETF...
Interestingly, while Ethereum did dip, its move is barely noticeable compared to bitcoin...
* * *
After yesterday's plunge in the majors (BTC and ETH), as crypto-traders piled in to Shiba Inu, this morning has seen those trends reverse with both Bitcoin and Ethereum rebounding strongly as Shiba Inu sinks.
Yesterday, ETH tumbled below $4000 as SHIBUSD soared...
Today, ETH is back above $4200...
...as SHIBUSD slides...
While the move is likely helped by the rotation/profit-taking from SHIBUSD's big move, we also note an interesting development.
Due to the continuous burning of ETH coins and fees, some Ethereum blocks become deflationary due to high network load, which then leads to high fees.
According to the burn tracking service, $12 million less Ethereum was issued today than distributed, making the whole day “deflationary.”
As TheDailySats.com reports, this is the first time this has happened since EIP-1559 went live less than 3 months ago.
Additionally, Bitcoin is back above $61,000...
With some analysts suggesting the recent Bitcoin dip mimics October 2017's drop, before it took off to new highs... Astonishingly, the dates of price phenomena in September and October 2021 practically match 2017. Popular Twitter account Smart Crypto, which noticed the trend, called for an “explosion” in time for 2022.
Utilizing Fibonacci sequences, should the rest of the quarter follow the same timeline as four years ago, significantly higher prices are in store for Bitcoin. Being an order of magnitude higher than the 2017 peak, these prices could hit $300,000.
