The risk-off tone that’s engulfed global markets continued Wednesday as Asian stocks slid on heightened uncertainty over this month’s upcoming tariff deadline. U.S. and European futures steadied, while Treasury yields held on to Tuesday’s decline.
Australia and Hong Kong bore the brunt of the losses, which were more modest in South Korea, China and Japan. S&P 500 futures were little changed after the underlying gauge fell for a third day as the Trump administration downplayed the urgency of signing a trade deal. Also hampering sentiment was a vote in the U.S. House to sanction Chinese officials for human rights abuses, which Beijing threatened to retaliate against. European futures ticked higher.
