Reportedly House Republican leadership lacks votes to support either of their top two options for debt ceiling concessions, making a 'clean' increase more likely - Washington Post
- The turn in the House GOP's internal maneuvering came during a morning huddle in the office of Speaker John A. Boehner (R-Ohio). Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Va) and Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif) attended the session and shared the latest informal whip counts on the GOP's bargaining ideas. The reports from Cantor and McCarthy were brief and direct: the votes aren't there, they told Boehner, and Republicans need to develop a new debt-limit plan.

House Republicans on Wednesday acknowledged that their two leading options for dealing the federal debt-limit do not have sufficient support inside the GOP caucus, strengthening the hand of the people who argue for a clean debt limit bill.
The turn in the House GOP's internal maneuvering came during a morning huddle in the office of Speaker John A.
On Monday, House Republicans discussed linking a one-year extension of the federal government's borrowing authority to a repeal of some provisions of the Affordable Care Act. The second idea was to trade trade approval of the Keystone XL pipeline for a one-year extension. Both ideas were debated at a conference meeting and members expected the conference to coalesce around one of the plans by later this week.

That playbook soon fizzled, however, once GOP leadership aides fanned out throughout the Capitol to take the temperature of members about the plans. Instead of finding growing support, they found unease and complaints, with myriad concerns raised by the House's right flank.
This shift in the GOP's debt-limit plans leaves Boehner scrambling to find another option to bring to the floor before the end of the month, when the debt ceiling is expected to be reached, according to Treasury Secretary Jack Lew.
Three House GOP aides, speaking on the condition of anonymity to discuss internal deliberations, said Boehner is now likely to bring up a package that could win Democratic votes. A clean extension - one without strings attached - is also on the speaker's radar, due to his colleagues inability to rally behind a plan.
House Republicans will meet later this week to rethink their strategy.

>>> Coffee futures extend gains and hit a new session high a short while ago of

Coffee futures extend gains and hit a new session high a short while ago of $1.41/lb; coffee is up 40% since Nov 6, up 24% since Jan 27
As I noted yesterday, severe heat and dryness in Brazil has threatened its coffee supply and has been a key catalyst in coffee futures climbing higher in recent sessions. The extremely unfavorable growing weather stems from a high-pressure system coming out of the Atlantic Ocean, which has created strong, hot winds.

In Brazil's largest city, Sao Paulo, among other cities such as Rio de Janeiro, January is normally the wettest month. Instead, it was just recorded at the hottest January in decades. The capital of Rio Grande do Sul, Porto Alegre, recorded the hottes January since record keeping began in 1916.

From Jan 27 alone, coffee futures are up 24% to $1.41/lb here (from $1.14) due to Brazil. Since Nov 6, when coffee futures were at $1.01, which was a low not seen since December 2008, coffee futures are up 40%.

>>> BA trading lower on times India story of Dreamliner software malfunction

Technical glitches ground Air India Dreamliner in Kuala Lumpur
NEW DELHI: An Air India Dreamliner, flying non-stop from Sydney to Delhi, with 215 people on board, today landed in Kuala Lumpur under emergency conditions after its cockpit panels suffered a software malfunction.

The pilots of the Boeing 787 who spotted the glitch on their panel while the aircraft was overflying Malaysia, immediately informed theKuala Lumpur air traffic control and sought permission to land, airline sources said.

The aircraft landed under emergency conditions at the airport, they said, adding it was a "normal" landing.

The plane, operating flight AI-301, was coming to Delhi from Sydney via Melbourne.

An Air India spokesperson said all the passengers have been provided hotel accommodation at Kuala Lumpur.

As no Dreamliner engineers were available in the Malaysian capital, they were being flown in from Hong Kong.

With the flight duty limit of the existing crew ending, a team of cockpit and cabin crew was also being flown from India and the flight is expected to arrive here tomorrow evening, the spokesperson said.

Air India's Dreamliner aircraft have been facing a series of problems since they were grounded for almost four months from January last year.

>>> Fed's Tarullo: Volcker Rule has limitations, FED Need to monitor Risk

Fed's Tarullo: Volcker Rule has limitations, it is critical that the Fed take a tough approach to monitoring and constraining the risks in all trading operations at the largest financial institutions
- The final rule has been modestly simplified from the 2011 proposal, but the agencies found that a good bit of the complexity in the proposal was hard to avoid in the final rule. Much of the remaining complexity lies in the part of the rule dealing with covered funds. The part of the rule dealing with proprietary trading has been streamlined somewhat, particularly by reducing the number of metrics that will be used in the reporting and analysis of trading data.
