OpenAI Signs $10 Billion Compute Deal With Chipmaker Cerebras

OpenAI on Wednesday announced a computing partnership with AI chip startup Cerebras Systems. As part of the deal, OpenAI plans to purchase 750 megawatts of computing power from the company through 2028, according to an OpenAI blog post.

The deal is worth at least $10 billion, reported The Wall Street Journal.

“OpenAI’s compute strategy is to build a resilient portfolio that matches the right systems to the right workloads,” said OpenAI’s Sachin Katti in the company’s blog post. Cerebras chips will help with faster responses and “more natural interactions” for its AI.

Cerebras, backed by OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, is in talks to raise about $1 billion at a $22 billion pre-money valuation, The Information previously reported. The company is also expected to list in the coming months.
