Syngenta: German Ministry adopts Emergency Ordinance for treated seeds
BERLIN (AWP International) - with an immediate trade ban on sowing and treated seeds will protect agriculture ministers Christian Schmidt (CSU) bees better against certain pesticides. It concerns so-called neonicotinoids, which affect the nervous system of insects and probably also interfere with their navigation system. The treatment of seed is already prohibited in Germany at winter crops. An Emergency Ordinance, which will come into force on Wednesday, now also prohibits trading and sowing, such as the Ministry announced on Tuesday. This focused primarily on imported seed.
These products are especially manufactured by the Swiss agrochemicals group Syngenta and the German Bayer.
"The Regulation we protect the bees before insektizidhaltigem dust. This benefits both the bee as an important part of nature as well as the farmers who are dependent on the pollination of their crops by the bees," said Schmidt.
Experts fear that the means to contribute to the currently observed bee deaths. In the EU, therefore applies from December 2013.
