Vivarte unit Kookai sale attracts interest from Pariente brothers; Credit Agricole advising

The sale of Kookaï, the French fashion brand controlled by the privately owned French retailer Vivarte, is understood to have attracted interest from the Pariente brothers, French newsletter Challenges reported.

The unsourced article claimed Credit Agricole is advising Vivarte on the sale of the business.

The Pariente brothers founded the Naf Naf brand and Kookai Australia, which operates 38 outlets in Australia and New Zealand with its own clothes collection.

Metals & Mining Chart Pack

The New Hope – Downgrade to Bearish

* 6 month view to Bearish — We are moving our 6 month stance to bearish, reversing our upgrade of the sector following the Brexit vote. The sector has run hard both in absolute and relative terms, being the best performing sector in Europe over the past 3 months. Our momentum indicators suggest this performance is unlikely to continue.

* Time to Cool it – Per our analysis current share prices are justified on current spot earnings (based on PE/EV/EBITDA), however we think commodity prices would need to move higher to drive the sector which runs contrary to our house base case view. The sector has followed global dollar liquidity and broader Chinese macro indicators, which we expect to get seasonally slower over the next few months. On the stock side, we would argue that the self-help alpha stories of improving balance sheets, cost cutting and capex are now priced in. The one valuation metric where the mining companies look 'cheap', is on spot free cash flow yield but this is not being translated into dividend yields and therefore

requires investors to make a leap of faith and HOPE that management will give them cash back. We think this risk is not worth taking and we think value is c20% down from here.

* EU Steel Stocks look more defensive on protectionism - Steel companies in the EU/US with inferior positioning on global cost curve could see significant boost in cash flow from comprehensive or near comprehensive protectionist measures. Protectionist measures could remain in place for several years, possibly longer, by virtue of long drawn out process of challenging and overturning such measures. Steel stocks in this region tend to be under owned and/or disliked by investors due to historical poor competitive positioning. We highlight our Buy rating on MT, STLD, SZG and X, which

we think are in the best global position to benefit.

* We have got Sell ratings on Anglo American, Vale, South 32, Boliden, Nyrstar, Ferrexpo, Randgold, Fresnillo, Acacia, Gem Diamonds, and Vallourec. Buy rated stocks are KAZ Minerals, ArcelorMittal, Aperam, Outokumpu, Salzgitter, Petra Diamonds, and Dominion Diamonds.

US Market closed higher after in line Personel Income & Spending Report for July by walking back fed funds rate hike expectations. The Personal Income and Spending Report took on extra significance after last week's Jackson Hole Symposium. Federal Reserve Chair Yellen indicated that the case for a rate hike had strengthened in recent months while Fed Vice Chair Fischer acknowledged that this view could be consistent with more than one rate hike before the end of the year. However, the Fed Vice Chair conditioned the potential hikes on a steady improvement in economic data. The fed funds futures market reflects the implied probability of a fed funds rate hike at the September meeting at 21.0%, falling from Friday's reading of 33.0%. All ten sectors ended in the green with utilities (+0.8%), telecom service (+0.8%), materials (+1.0%), and financials (+1.0%) leading the pack. Conversely, heavily-weighted technology (+0.3%) and health care (+0.3%) ended with the slimmest gains. AAPL -0.1% after reports indicated that the company will be subject to fines associated with back taxes from holdings in Europe. Separately, headlines also indicated that Apple sent out invites to a September 7 press event. The company is expected to reveal the next installment of its iPhone device at the event. Volume were below average at 643mil shares. US After Hours RIGL shares jump ahead of AM data release, SCSC drops on light earnings/guidance, HSY slumps as MDLZ walks away. Asian equity markets are modestly higher following more pronounced gains in the US session where traders are looking past the growing expectations of impending tightening by the FOMC, sending stocks higher and long-end Treasury yields lower. Instead, the focus now turns to this week's US jobs data out of Friday and its implications for near term policy - some analysts suggest that a non-farm payrolls figure above 150K will make September Fed decision a very close call and generally give the green light for a rate hike later this year. Volatility has remained compressed in an otherwise typically thin pre-US holiday week. Japan PM Abe's advisor Hamada called on the Finance Ministry to "courageously" intervene in FX markets to stem the yen appreciation, accusing the MOF of lost credibility on exchange rate. In China, local press reported that the aggregate H1 results of 40 listed China fund companies saw their net profits down 13% and Rev down 2.9%. Earnings decline trend was similarly observed in a UBS note which saw H1 earnings decline for non-financial A-share companies widening to -5.2% y/y from -0.6% in Q1.
