US market bounce back today helped by a better ISM for june, a reversal in oil. HEalthcare outperf. helped the mkt too. IBB +2.4%, Celgene (CELG 104.60, +4.35) gained 4.3% after signing a confidentiality agreement with Medivation (MDVN 62.33, +0.57). Additionally, Sanofi (SNY 41.23, -0.13) and Pfizer (PFE 35.86, +0.05) signed similar agreements, indicating that each could be exploring a potential transaction with Medivation. Elsewhere, Valeant Pharmaceuticals (VRX 23.06, +3.11) spiked 15.6% after Walgreens Boot Alliance (WBA 81.55, -1.97) announced during its conference call that it is pleased with its relationship with Valeant. Volume were above average with more than 1bil share traded. US After Hours WDC +4.5% following guidance/CFO news, LEDS +59.1% on purchase agreement news. Asian equities are mixed in the wake of a turnaround on Wall St. Mainland China markets are underperforming due to concerns over the banking sector, but the retreat in Tokyo is more mild than yesterday. Korea is supported by strong prelim Q2 results from Samsung Electronics, while energy names boosted Australia despite the warning from S&P on its sovereign credit rating. WTI crude oil was up over 1% in electronic trade after another big draw in API inventories, and gold consolidated recent gains. In Japan, BOJ Gov Kuroda reiterated the central bank will maintain its QE stance as long as it is needed until 2% inflation target is achieved, but acknowledged CPI is likely to remain negative for the time being. Kuroda added the BOJ will consider additional stimulus, but deemed overall financial system to be stable and moderate recovery trend continuing.
