Stocks shot to new records on Monday, helped by a Senate vote to reopen the government and provide funding through February 8. nine of eleven sectors finishing in the green. The energy and telecom services sectors were the top performers, adding 2.1% and 2.3%, respectively, while the consumer discretionary (+1.1%) and real estate (+1.0%) groups also had a relatively strong showing. Juno Therapeutics and Bioverativ surged 26.8% and 61.9%, respectively. materials (-0.2%) and industrials (unch) sectors were the only groups to finish in negative territory. US After Hours RMD +10%, NFLX +8%, ADBE / AMTD +2.5% higher following earnings/guidance, WHR +3% and select solar names higher on tariffs news. Asian stocks climbed to record highs Tuesday amid optimism on corporate earnings, following an end -- for now -- to the U.S. government shutdown. yen rose after the Bank of Japan used more positive language on inflation expectations in today’s policy statement, though the move faded ahead of a press briefing by Governor Haruhiko Kuroda. WTI climbed toward $64 a barrel after OPEC and Russia said output cuts will continue until the end of the year. Bitcoin was drifting around $10,400.
