US EQUITIES – ENDED MIXED with the Dow, S&P, and Nasdaq falling and the Russell 2000 higher. Sector performance was mixed. Energy was the best performing sector, while REITs and Utilities were the the worst performers. Treasuries were mixed, with the yield curve steepening. The dollar was mixed against the major currencies. Gold gained 0.4%. WTI rallied 0.9%. ASIAN MARKETS – ARE MIXED on Thursday. THE BoJ left policy unchanged as widely expected, also making minor changes to its economic assessment. Markets shrugged off the decision, with the yen holding bear recent lows against the dollar and JGB yields bear flattening. THE NIKKEI erased earlier declines to be trading flat. CHINESE EQUITIES are trading higher, with the yuan rising to its highest against the dollar since mid-September. The annual economic work conference wrapped up on Wednesday with a goal of achieving balanced growth. Leaders vowed further supply-side structural reforms, a prudent and neutral monetary policy, and a focus on financial risk prevention that omitted language on outright deleveraging. In FX markets, THE DOLLAR has recorded widespread - albeit very modest - gains against other currencies. COPPER is on track for its best year since 2010, while bullish inventory data has helped OIL remain just below multi-year highs.
