Asian stocks were mixed Friday, as investors digested the latest China state media commentaries on the trade war alongside an extension in the U.S. stock rally overnight.
Futures on the S&P 500 Index hit their lows of the session after commentaries ran in Chinese media saying China may have no interest in continuing trade talks with the U.S. for now. The yuan, already trading at five-month lows, dropped further. Japan’s stock gauges gained more than 1%, however South Korean shares were little changed. Equities slid in Shanghai and in Hong Kong. Elsewhere, crude oil rose above $63 a barrel in New York. Ten-year Treasury yields remain near their lows of the year.
