Takeaway.com chief raises option of merger with Delivery Hero
The head of Dutch food delivery website Takeaway.com [TKWY:AS] this weekend raised the possibility of a merger with German rival Delivery Hero [DHER:DE], according to a newswire report.
Takeaway.com chief executive CEO Jitse Groen said in German newspaper Tagesspiegel that a combination with Delivery Hero might be an option, Reuters wrote. In terms of sector consolidation, he added, there is only room for one supplier in each country.
The CEO of Delivery Hero said on Monday that he believed there would be consolidation, though maybe not in Germany in the short term, according to the 22 January Reuters report.
Takeaway.com shares at midday on Monday were up almost 4% at EUR 47.75 apiece corresponding to a market cap of EUR 2.06bn.
Delivery Hero shares were up 4.5% at EUR 34.66 each for a market cap of EUR 5.96bn.
