Poste Italiane mulls bid for Sia; may sell Banca del Mezzogiorno - Il Sole 24 Ore

Poste Italiane, the Italian post office, is considering a bid for Sia, the Italian payments services group, Italian language daily Il Sole 24 Ore reported.

The unsourced article said Poste Italiane CEO Francesco Caio has drawn up initial proposals for a bid. Poste Italiane is believed to be interested in Sia because its payment services would complement it owns services.

The report said, however, FSI, the strategic investment fund controlled by the Italian Treasury, which owns 49.48% of Sia, is believed to favour an IPO, which it hopes to carry out by the end of the year.

Poste Italiane is also drawing up preliminary plans to sell lender Banca del Mezzogiorno to Sace, the export credit agency, the report said.
