OMV on radar of Gazprom as IPIC seeks exit
Gazprom, the Russian oil giant, is considering a takeover of Austrian rival OMV, Der Kurier reported. Peter Pilz, a member of the Austrian parliament representing the Green Party, told the newspaper that he has concrete evidence that Abu Dhabi-based oil fund IPIC wants to sell its 24.9% stake in OMV and that Gazprom is evaluating a possible takeover of OMV.
The article pointed out that IPIC is in a shareholder syndicate with Austrian state investment agency OIAG, which owns a 31.5% stake in OMV. Bernhard Nagiller, a spokesman for OMV, told Der Kurier that there are no indicators that IPIC is planning to exit the aforementioned shareholder syndicate.
OMV has a market cap of EUR 10.525bn.
