Israel plans to auction 5G licences in 1H19
02 JAN 2019
Israel is planning to launch a tender for 5G mobile bandwidth licenses during 1H19, according to a report in Ha'aretz. The report said, based on an announcement by the Israeli Ministry of Communications, that the tender may be launched in April or May, and frequencies may be allocated by 2019-end, which would allow for 5G to be running between 2020 and 2023.
Netanel Cohen, General Director at the Communications Ministry, was quoted in the report as saying that internet will govern all processes in countries with a strong economy and social technologies. A 5G network that would add a layer on 4G, would bring in ILS 2bn (USD 529m) of investment, which is a high sum for Israeli mobile operators, the report noted.
