Shares in the listed France-payment services group Ingenico [EPA:ING] shot up by 10% yesterday Tuesday on news that competitor Verifone Systems [NYSE: PAY] was acquired by investment funds for USD 3.4bn, including a 54% premium on the company’s last closing share price, French daily Le Figaro reported. The unsourced report said that the news relaunched rumours of a potential takeover of Ingenico, which is deemed a target.
The report claimed that listed French IT group Atos [EPA:ATO], via its listed payment subsidiary Worldline [EPA:WLN],could be interested in taking over Ingenico, whose market capitalisation amounts to EUR 4.5bn. The report noted that shares in Ingenico still have a 17.70% deficit compared to the beginning of 2017.
