Haniel looking for buys, not planning Metro sale
Haniel, the German family-owned business group, intends to make at least one acquisition this year, Die Welt reported.
Haniel Chief Executive Stephan Gemkow told the German-language daily he wants to make at least one acquisition this year and he actively approaches companies that are of interest. Haniel has EUR 1.5bn available for buys, the report stated.
Asked if he is considering the sale of Metro, Haniel's wholesale retail chain, Gemkow said Metro's current share price does not reflect the actual value of the company, and it would not make sense to sell it now. Gemkow stated the group's cash position is more than sufficient following the sale of Celesio.
