Gemalto confirms interest in acquiring Safran's identity and security division

Olivier Piou, the managing director of the listed Netherlands-based digital security specialist Gemalto, said during a video interview with stock exchange news portal Boursorama that the group intends to acquire the identity and security activities of listed French aerospace and defence group Safran.

Newswire AFP, reported the news, and noted that the deadline for submitting indicative offers is set to 17 June. 12 parties, including seven French-American consortia, have already expressed their interest in the business, which is valued at around EUR 2bn. The auction is being conducted by Lazard and Societe Generale.
