"FRENCH TELECOMS – Bouygues has just announced a set of new mobile tariffs in France, simplifying the structure to only 7 tariffs and moving its previous B&You Youth Brand into Bouygues Telecom and making it a no contract, no handset tariff – which doesn’t really change things at all. Looking at the prior tariffs we have for Bouygues, it doesn’t seem there is any material change to B&You tariffs, other than the company has now introduced a 10Gb and 20Gb for €39.99 and €69.99 that it didn’t have before. Previously, it had only give data usage up to 5Gb. Interestingly, Iliad for almost a year has had a €15.99/€19.99 tariff for unlimited voice/SMS and 10Gb in the market for a year now – so it’s not as if these are ground breaking. On its ‘main’ Sensation brand, the same is true – in fact there have been selective price increases. I’ve spoken to the company, and what it says is that the importance of today’s news is that it will migrate users immediately on these new tariffs – so you will have 650 tariffs moving to 40 tariffs. The reason for the move is to save costs (from IT/marketing) and make it simpler for the consumer, thus improving customer service. This is not a price war or change. "
